Common Ground is the result of two years of consultation with community, environmental, government and industry representatives which has resulted in an interactive, plain language and highly accessible website.
Common Ground brings together a wide range of government data, allowing resource titles to be viewed in context of National Parks, reserves, Strategic Agricultural Land, Native Title areas and indicative CSG residential exclusion zones. It provides both map-based and textual information on titles and companies and sets out the applications and approvals process for mineral, petroleum and gas projects in NSW, in plain language.
Spatial Vision designed a cloud-based architecture which integrated a number of “best of breed” cloud services for mapping and visualisation, feedback management, content management and analytics. Custom processes were developed to refresh the title data nightly from the department’s single source of truth.

Spatial Vision developed a responsive, mobile enabled web site with up to date spatial representation of title claims across New South Wales, with the ability to easily compare them to other important spatial data, supported by clearly written descriptions of the title claims process.

DRE has long published a range of publicly accessible data on mining and production titles however it was primarily intended for a professional audience and used language which was less accessible for other interested stakeholders. In addition, the data was published without some much needed context, both in terms of map layers and explanatory text.
With resource exploration and extraction an area of ongoing public interest and at times controversy, there was a need to provide a clear, easy to use and authoritative source of information to inform the public discussion

The website is hosted by Spatial Vision in an Australian cloud hosting centre and provides a fully load balanced, high availability solution.
Content on the web site is easily and regularly updated, with map content drawn from the department’s database nightly and other information updated by departmental staff in a secure, cloud-based content management system, from where it is dynamically interested into the web page templates.

Is fast, intuitive user experience with no need for a browser plugin, suitable for use on desktops, tablets and phones
Data is updated regularly to ensure it is current and accurate
Integration with cloud CMS allowing information to be easily updated without developer input
Use of cloud services and hosting ensures minimal demand on the department’s infrastructure
