Sustainable Development at the Victorian Spatial Showcase & eSummit

From COVID tracing to bushfire detection, geospatial technology is having a tremendous impact on the big issues of our time. This year’s Victorian Spatial Showcase & eSummit opened by the Victorian Minister for Planning the Hon. Richard Wynne showcased a number of innovative projects across Victoria that are truly making a difference to lives and livelihoods both locally and internationally.

The 17 Goals are a call-to-action for all countries to promote prosperity while protecting the planet.

The Sustainable Development Goals were a key focus at this year’s Showcase, with the Victorian spatial community drawing on its collective experience in navigating opportunities and challenges in achieving the Goals. The 17 Goals are a call-to-action for all countries to promote prosperity while protecting the planet. The framework adopted by world leaders in September 2015 at a historic UN Summit outlines Goals and targets to be achieved by 2030 to ensure no one is left behind.

Harmen Romeijn from Spatial Vision also presented a lightning talk on our Land Use project for the Department of Environment, Land, Water and Planning (DELWP) – see recording below. The presentation demonstrates how we developed a consolidated, temporal, authoritative and reliable information source that accurately represents current government land use within the Urban Growth Boundary and tools designed to ensure the approach was repeatable, adapting with changing conditions over time.

With over 800 delegates in attendance, the event demonstrates the power of collaboration between Government, Industry Associations and the Private Sector in tackling complex global issues and working towards a more sustainable, equitable world.

This event was hosted by SIBA|GITA, SSSI and DELWP. Click here to access recordings from the event.
