Timely Wildfire and Climate Change Forum

A key theme for most speakers was the need to prepare for change, particularly the role climate change will play in the fire regime changes such areas are likely to experience in the future.  And yes, climate change is a key driver behind the recent west coast fires in the USA, not just poor forest management.

The Online GIS Journey

As the world around us continues to change day by day as a result of the global pandemic, so must the way we both interact and communicate with our clientele in many areas of business.

GIS Journey is just one of these areas at Spatial Vision to have undertaken such a change, transitioning from a physical face-to-face delivery model, into an online delivery platform for our clients, in a relatively short period of time.

Here’s how we made that transition successful.

Tsunami of Data for Local Government

There has never been a more interesting time to be involved in Local Government GIS, especially in Victoria.
There is a Tsunami of new spatial data becoming available to Local Governments that may open up opportunities for delivering more spatially intelligent and reliable services.
Graeme Martin recently spoke about the challenges, opportunities and possible responses to the initiatives cropping up, and collaborative approaches to making the most of this transformative time.

Social Connection in the Age of COVID: Ideas and lessons for the workplace and beyond

A few months before COVID19 really hit, one of our staff members Rhiannan Mundana and I were chatting in the kitchen about how great it would be if Spatial Vision had a social club. Rhi wanted to see more connection across teams beyond the standard Friday drinks, lunchtime crosswords and the odd (very competitive) table tennis tournament.

Armed with activity ideas, input from her teammates, and a catchy name to boot, my only reaction was “Yes! We should totally do that!”. With excited minds we were all set to begin our culture building journey…

And then COVID happened.

Ep 2: Making a Commitment

It’s hard to ignore the devastation the COVID-19 pandemic has brought to lives and livelihoods around the world.

With over 1.2 billion daily visits to the John Hopkins COVID-19 dashboard, the world is desperately seeking answers. Where are the cases concentrated? How many deaths?

Understandably, there are many concerns, yet underneath it all, one question remains:

When will it end? Or rather, how will we get out this?

DCM #1: Preparing for DCM2x2

Spatial Vision and partners Reeds Consulting and Collier Geodetic Solutions commence the Adjustment phase of DELWP’s Digital Cadastral Modernisation (DCM). In this first blog, Jeremy introduces the project team and objectives.

Ep 1: Think Global, Act Local

Increasingly employees and leaders of organisations, including commercial businesses are asking:

How do we make a positive difference to our world?

The United Nation’s 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) provide a challenge and framework for moving towards a more equitable and sustainable world for all to share now and in the future.

A Disastrous Bushfire Season Highlights the Need for Reliable Information

Bushfires are synonymous with the history of Australia, pre and post European settlement. Clearly this bushfire season has been unprecedented in severity, duration and extent.

Queensland was first impacted by severe bushfires in August 2019. Prolonged drought and strong positive Indian Ocean Dipole-influenced weather conditions kicked the QLD season off earlier than usual.
